It can rain in any season on the island. Instead of staying in your hotel, use a cloudy day to discover the cultural and culinary side of Florianópolis.
Ideas for rainy days
- Public Market and historic downtown: the market’s central courtyard is covered.
- Metropolitan Cathedral: a quick, peaceful visit.
- MArquE (UFSC): the museum holds the collection of Franklin Cascaes. Check opening hours first.
- Projeto TAMAR: a good outing with children.
- A long oyster lunch in Ribeirão da Ilha or Santo Antônio de Lisboa.
- São José da Ponta Grossa Fort: in light drizzle, the view over the bay is still lovely.
Quick summer showers
In summer, much of the rain comes as late-afternoon downpours. Sometimes it is worth waiting an hour and heading back to the beach.
