The symbol of this guide
Hercílio Luz Bridge
Opened in 1926 to link the island to the mainland, the suspension bridge was closed for decades and reopened in December 2019. Lit up at night, it is the best-known image of Florianópolis.
- 1926 year it opened
- 821 m total length

FAQ
Read this before you travel
How many days should I spend in Florianópolis?
Three days are enough for Lagoa da Conceição, the Joaquina dunes and beach, one northern beach and downtown with the Hercílio Luz Bridge. With five to seven days you can add Campeche Island, the Lagoinha do Leste hike, Santo Antônio de Lisboa, Ribeirão da Ilha and a spare day for rain.
Which is the best area to stay in Florianópolis?
It depends on your style: the north (Jurerê, Canasvieiras, Ingleses) has calmer water and plenty of services; Lagoa da Conceição is central and lively; the south (Campeche, Armação, Pântano do Sul) is quieter and more natural; downtown is practical if you arrive by bus or on business.
When is the best time to visit Florianópolis?
Summer (December to March) has the warmest sea and the busiest island, with slow traffic. March, April, October and November usually combine pleasant days and fewer crowds. Winter is cool, good for hiking, food and culture.
How do I get to Florianópolis?
By plane, through Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN), in the south of the island, with domestic and international flights. By bus, through the Rita Maria bus station downtown. By car, on the BR-101 highway and the bridges linking the mainland to the island.
Do I need a car in Florianópolis?
It helps a lot, because the beaches are spread across the island. But you can manage with the integrated public bus system, taxis and ride-hailing apps if you stay close to the beaches you want and avoid crossing the island at summer rush hours.
