Calm water, plenty of facilities and schooner trips on the North Bay.

The north of the island has the beaches most popular with families and with Argentine, Uruguayan and Chilean tourists in summer. The beaches facing the North Bay, such as Jurerê and Canasvieiras, have calm water that is more pleasant for swimming; those facing the ocean, such as Santinho and Brava, have waves.

- Canasvieiras: plenty of facilities and the departure point for schooner trips.
- Ingleses: a long bay and lots of pousadas (guesthouses).
- Santinho: open sea and rock carvings on the headland.
