Barra da Lagoa is on the east side of the island, beside the channel that links Lagoa da Conceição to the Atlantic Ocean. Until a few decades ago it was a fishing village, and the community feel lives on: colorful boats in the channel, fish shops and simple restaurants, according to Wikipedia.
What to do
- Barra beach: a more sheltered cove at the channel end, popular with families.
- The channel: walk along the bank and watch the fishing boats come and go.
- Prainha da Barra: on the other side of the channel, reached by a pedestrian bridge and a short trail over the headland.
- Projeto TAMAR: the Projeto TAMAR visitor center is in the area.
