Canasvieiras is a neighborhood and beach in the north of the island, between Jurerê and Cachoeira do Bom Jesus. In summer it becomes one of the busiest destinations on the island, and the beach is one of the most visited by Argentine and Uruguayan tourists, according to Wikipedia.

The name
The most widely accepted explanation, according to Wikipedia, is the cultivation of a variety of sugarcane, the “cana-vieira”, in the area. A 1786 map already records “Praia Cana Vieiras”.
