Campeche Beach is in the south of the island, between Joaquina and Morro das Pedras. It is the longest beach in the south of the island and has, right in front of it, Campeche Island, which gave its name to the beach and the neighborhood, according to Wikipedia.
What the beach is like
- Open sea: strong waves and cold water, as on the island’s other ocean beaches.
- Wide sand: great for walking, running and games.
- Dunes and restinga: part of the area near the beach is protected.
Technically, Campeche continues the sand of Joaquina with no break at all; culturally, the two are seen as different beaches.
To Campeche Island
Boats to Campeche Island leave from the Campeche area, from Armação and from Barra da Lagoa. Visits to the island have a daily limit.
A base in the south
The neighborhood has grown a lot and has restaurants, supermarkets and pousadas, making it a practical base for exploring the south. See where to stay.
Practical tips
